I am at Chay's TKD for a little over a year now. I am an adult coming back to martial arts after a long hiatus,, so I have a perspective from my experience training Korean martial arts from over 30 years ago.
Chay's teaches ITF style Tae Kwon Do, which is a traditional martial art (unlike, say, MMA). What that means is, you or your kids will learn Basic blocks, punches and kicks. You will learn to do it in drills on the floor, and progress to practicing against a heavy bag, paddles, and in partner drills, and eventually free sparring. And you will learn forms (sometimes known as Poomsae or Kata in other styles of TKD or Karate), which are a foundation of most if not all traditional martial arts (TKD, Karate, Kung Fu, etc).
If all this sounds like a lot, it is. But don't worry, Master Chay and his instructors will break it down for you so you don't get overwhelmed in the first couple of days.
If you are in the Mequon or Cedarburg area, you should give them a try. And if you are an adult and think you are too old or out of shape to try, or come back to martial arts, think again. I was over 50.when I signed up last year.
Master Chay runs a great Tae Kwon Do studio!
Our family has been going to Chay's for a few years now. Master Chay is so great with kids of all ages (and encouraging to adults that are a little unsure of starting something new!) Great facilities and staff - would recommend to ANYONE!!!
